
Aristarchus Pranayama, B.A., M.A., Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Visual Communication Design (DKV) Department at Petra Christian University, Surabaya, where he has been teaching since 2004. He also contributes to the International Program in Digital Media (IPDM) and the Master of Design (M.Ds.) program within the Faculty of Humanities and Creative Industries. He earned his Ph.D. in Visual Contents from Dongseo University, South Korea, and his M.A. in Studio Art in Painting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, USA. With a background spanning fine arts, visual communication design, and digital media, Aris integrates visual storytelling with technology in his teaching, research, and creative practice. His work focuses on phygital cultural heritage experiences, urban branding, and contemporary visual culture, exemplified by his intellectual property, the “Subo” art toy. He has previously served as Head of the Department (2014–2018) and continues to be actively involved in curriculum development and international collaborations in design and media.
